What Liberal Bias?

The New York Times recently employed William Kristol, editor of right-wing mag The Weekly Standard and frequent Fox News pundit, to write weekly for the Op-Ed page. I'd just like to use this blog-space to paste the first paragraph of his first column. Read it, think about the general political stance of the Times columnists, and then do a double take:

Thank you, Senator Obama. You’ve defeated Senator Clinton in Iowa. It looks as if you’re about to beat her in New Hampshire. There will be no Clinton Restoration. A nation turns its grateful eyes to you. But gratitude for sparing us a third Clinton term only goes so far. Who, inquiring minds want to know, is going to spare us a first Obama term? After all, for all his ability and charm, Barack Obama is still a liberal Democrat. Some of us would much prefer a non-liberal and non-Democratic administration. We don’t want to increase the scope of the nanny state, we don’t want to undo the good done by the appointments of John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court, and we really don’t want to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory in Iraq.

Whaaat??? Good done by Samuel Alito"? Victory in Iraq?

To be fair, the Times Op-Ed page usually has conservative input, which has lately taken the form of its resident-Republican David Brooks. But Brooks lacks one thing that Kristol has: UTTER IRRATIONALITY. Brooks has taken a more moderate, anti-Bush (and even pro-Clinton/Obama) stance in recent months because he has critical thinking abilities-- which Fox News and Mr. Kristol undoubtedly lack!
